From Africa to America in a DC-3

Via Air Facts Journal comes this fascinating tale by Jeff Tait of a ferry flight to bring a DC-3 home from Niger, Africa.

The ferry crew flew over endless desert, crossed to the Azores, flew the mighty North Atlantic, and made it back home in one piece.

Considering that this was all done by radio range, whiskey compass, and wristwatch makes me appreciate the fact that here in 2013 even a lowly VFR private pilot like me has two VOR receivers, a Garmin GPS, a portable GPS, and two iDevices with a Bad Elf GPS receiver.

Kids these days have it easy.
