P-51 “Luscious Lisa”

A photo from airshows past, the P-51D “Luscious Lisa” at Sun n Fun 2008:

Luscious Lisa

Who doesn’t like a P-51?  The 51D and it’s bubble canopy is probably the most recognizable fighter from WWII.

I particularly like the paint job on this one, from the bright red spinner to the yellow-checkerboard empennage and wing accents. Note the dull black on top of the cowl to keep glare out of the pilot’s eyes.

The P-51 is a beautiful airframe, probably the first to truly test the maxim that “what looks good flies good.”  Add in a paint scheme that grabs the personal aesthetic, and you have one appealing machine.
